There are two choices of tumble dryer, being the vented type and the condenser type.
Vented tumble dryers exhaust the warm moist air away from the machine via an exhaust port which can be fitted with a venting kit to direct the flow out of a window, door or wall adaptor.
Condenser tumble dryers use a system of metal plates to encourage condensation as the air is passed over them. The resultant water then collects in a container which is manually emptied, although it is possible to adapt some such dryers to empty directly into the household plumbing system.
The main advantage of a condenser tumble dryer is that it can be positioned in a number of places in the home without the worry of a vent hose, thus providing ease and security to the householder.
It is worth considering dryers that use a sensor to detect the dryness of the clothes or material inside, especially as it is common for the machine to use cool air in the last ten minutes. Clothes that feel too damp will need further drying, wasting time and energy.
Consider a dryer with a drum that reverses direction to ensure your clothes do not crease and tangle but remain open to the drying air which vastly accelerates the drying time required. The uni direction dryer is in fact the usual basic model for most manufacturers.
If there is little room for a tumble dryer why not consider using a stacking kit to securely fix this appliance ABOVE the washing machine? The Hotpoint model for example is easy to assemble and is solid and robust. It has a useful shelf, ideal for helping to transfer the laundry between the two machines with minimum effort.
