Drying by a Tumble Dryer or the natural way-The choices
Vented Dryers/Condenser Dryers. The vented dryer is usually a cheaper purchase designed to exhaust the moist air outside through a hole in the wall or through an open window or door. The appliance will need to placed near the point of the damp air exit usually by a plastic tube that may be a hindrance. The Condenser Dryer is becoming the dryer of choice as it is almost as fast in drying clothes as the vented version and can be placed anywhere in well ventilated rooms only being subject to the water container being emptied unless the water is exhausted into the plumbing system. It works by passing warm moist air over a mesh of cold metal plates condensing the air into droplets that are collected into a container.
Heat Pump Tumble Dryers. Most top end manufacturers now include Heat Pump Dryers in the upper end of their tumble Dryer range. They use a sophisticated pump to return already heated air back into the drum thus saving more energy every time in use. This is evident in the energy ratings often allowing the extra money for these models to be effectively refunded in a very short time using up to 50% less energy.
The Alternative drying method. Many people dry their clothes outside on a clothes line or rotary dryer. The main advantage is that this method is free for everyone and usually results in the clothes smelling nice and fresh. There is the possibility that the many rain clouds in our damp country may resoak the clothes and of course may be subject to theft depending what is on the line! The disadvantages of drying clothes indoors of course includes the longer drying time and the possibility of creating an unwanted damp atmosphere in your home. Please also bear in mind that in addition to the wet clothes hanging around the home being a nuisance a central heating radiator will dry materials at a faster rate but will then mean that your boiler will need to work harder to comply with the temperature selected. There is always a price to pay! - The choice is yours but remember that there is a huge choice at Carters whether being in near our stores in Brighton, Hove, Worthing, Horsham, Haywards Heath or elsewhere in Sussex
